Open Field Awakening – process overview

OFA × Rigdzin Fiscal Sponsorship

The path from exploration to active programs, as of September 30, 2026

Open Field Awakening, a 501(c)(3), is exploring fiscal sponsorship of two new charitable programs proposed by Rigdzin, Dustin DiPerna's Dharma training organization. It is a shared process, shaped in conversation between the two organizations at every step. This page shows the broad steps from here to launch and where we are now. The details live in the two working documents linked above.

The programs

Therapy, healing, and integration support: need-based subsidies for personal psychotherapy and integration work.

Retreat access: help with travel, room, and board so more practitioners can attend in-person retreats.

The path

  1. Done

    Inquiry and first framing

Rigdzin and OFA opened a conversation about fiscal sponsorship for two new charitable programs. OFA's board authorized an investigation, and first drafts of a working punch list and an intake questionnaire took shape from those conversations.

Done when: Both organizations share a first picture of the request, and drafts exist.

  2. In progress You are here

    Meta review of drafts

Both teams read the drafts and send reflections. Kabir integrates them, and the two organizations confirm together that the documents are ready to use.

Done when: Both organizations agree the documents are provisionally final.

  3. Ahead

    Discovery

Rigdzin answers the intake questionnaire and OFA shares its own relevant information. The two organizations talk the answers through and form a shared preliminary view of the sponsorship model and the questions for counsel.

Done when: Both organizations have the shared facts needed to brief an attorney well.

  4. Ahead

    Legal guidance

The organizations agree on the questions and budget for nonprofit counsel. Counsel maps the compliance guardrails, including separation from Rigdzin's commercial operations, advises on the sponsorship model, and the findings are discussed with both organizations.

Done when: A shared guardrails memo and a model both organizations understand.

  5. Ahead

    Joint program design

OFA and Rigdzin decide together who is eligible, how recipients are chosen, how care is delivered and paid, how retreat support works, and the administrative fee.

Done when: Written program rules both organizations agree on.

  6. Ahead

    Operations setup

The organizations agree on how the administrative work is shared. OFA, as sponsor, sets up restricted-fund tracking, donor acknowledgments, and annual reporting, and the application and disbursement workflow is designed together.

Done when: Funds can be received, tracked, and disbursed cleanly, with clear roles on both sides.

  7. Ahead

    Agreements and approval

Both organizations review drafts of the fiscal sponsorship agreement, gift acceptance documents, and selection materials, and Rigdzin may have its own counsel review them. OFA's board and Rigdzin's leadership approve, and both sign.

Done when: A signed agreement both organizations stand behind.

  8. Ahead

    Program launch

OFA receives the pending donation, and the two organizations open the first application cycle together for therapy and integration support and for retreat travel, room, and board.

Done when: The first students receive support.

  9. Later

    Later programs

Once the core programs run well, the two organizations consider together support for the Khedrup Foundation in Bhutan and professional development for community mental health and coaching providers, along with other charitable possibilities that emerge from the dialogue.

Done when: Added by amendment when both agree the fit is right.

How you can help right now

This is not the formal questionnaire step. Please don't answer the questionnaire's questions yet.

Right now we're reviewing the drafts themselves: a preliminary look at whether the proposed punch list and questionnaire ask the right things, in the right way. Your notes on wording, gaps, and concerns make both documents more useful before the formal questionnaire goes to Rigdzin in the Discovery step.

Add a note to any passage, then send your reflections to Kabir from the end of each page.
